WHO IS IT ABOUT?

Piotr Moss is one of the greatest Polish composers. His brilliant career led him to Paris, where he studied with the famous Nadia Boulanger winning plenty of awards at international composition competitions and the most prestigious cultural awards. After many years spent in France, the composer returned to Poland. He currently lives and creates in Warsaw.

WHO AM I?

I play the guitar since I was 7. I studied at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk and London, and recently I defended my PhD dissertation. During my studies I visited many countries, where I took part in competitions and gave concerts. In 2014, as a laureate of the IBLA competition in Sicily, I even got an invitation to participate in USA concert tour with a debut concert at Carnegie Hall, unfortunately I didn't get visa ... (twice)! I work with composers ordering and performing new works, popularizing guitar art in its new version. ABOUT THE PROJECT:

This year Piotr Moss celebrates his 70th birthday. To mark this occasion I decided to release a CD where I discover his lesser-known guitar and chamber music pieces. Most of them will be recorded for the first time in history.

I came up with the idea for the album when during my studies at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk I came across the work of this composer. Since then his music has taken a permanent place in my repertoire as well as scientific activity - the doctoral thesis I defended in January 2019 was partly devoted to the work of P. Moss, and in the future I am going to write a book about his guitar compositions.

The idea of recording Piotr Moss's pieces with the guitar is a natural continuation of my interests in his rich work and tribute to both his works and (and perhaps above all) the inspiring personality.

The recordings will be accompanied by 6 great musicians from all over Poland: accordionist Iwo Jedynecki and violinist Robert Kwiatkowski among others. The participation of such experienced artists guarantees the excellent quality of recordings.

The recording sessions are planned at the end of June and the beginning of July so you will receive it in December at the latest.

REPERTOIRE:

The CD will include compositions for solo guitar (Cinq Impromptus 1982 and Esquisses I 1984) and chamber works such as: Dedication II for flute, viola and guitar (1994) or Form X for guitar and string quartet (1992) and Suite francaise for guitar and accordion (2016) - a piece written for Marcin Kozioł. Such a diversity of pieces collected on one disc will allow the listener to see how the compositional vision of the guitar's role has changed over the years - from the first guitar composition from 1982 to the works written a few years ago in 21st century.

WHAT ARE MY EXPENSES?

The cost of a CD release is not just to pay for a studio recording. I will be able to spend the collected money to pay the performers, additionally cover the costs related to the preparation of the recordings (mix, mastering, studio), publishing costs (cover design, CD pressing, printing, copyrights) and commissions for the odpalprojekt.pl portal.

Every little help from you brings me closer to achieving my goal!
